David Gentle
David Gentle became involved in the excitement of the music and arts scene in London in the 1960s and 1970s having set out to work in a general practice in the west end of London in 1965. After qualifying in 1968 David moved to a small practice with number of clients in the music industry and he became a partner in that practice with Roy Mathias in 1971.
Within a general west end Solicitors’ practice dealing with conveyancing, litigation (matrimonial and civil) company and commercial matters David developed an in-depth knowledge of the music industry and copyright law establishing a very successful niche practice. By the late 1970s he was advising a substantial number of artists and independent music companies that became (and remain) household names. He and his practice have continued to attract new talent and currently he represents artists who have achieved success in recent years as well as many of his original clients.
David offers general legal advice on all aspects of his clients’ business creative and personal lives and has been involved in several of the major music industry cases over the past 20 years, which are still seen as having established current practice.
David’s involvement with the London art world has also continued to evolve and he now represents many artists and galleries. He is well-informed on the workings of the international art business.
David reunited with Roy Mathias in 2002 after a break of over 15 years bringing together two successful firms with complementary skills which have now culminated in Goldkorn Mathias Gentle Page LLP
David lives in London and France and is a recognized legal expert on matters relating to the music industry.
