Roy Mathias

Roy read Law at the London School of Economics. He was admitted as a Solicitor in 1967. For many years he was in partnership in a West End practice specialising in entertainment law, then a sole practitioner for some years before becoming a Member of Goldkorn Mathias Gentle Page LLP. He is a practicing Deputy District Judge.

Roy’s litigation practice includes commercial and company law, landlord and tenant and matrimonial cases. He is very experienced and has been involved in a number of large and complex trials involving difficult issues of fact and law. His strengths are his capacity to unravel legal complexities and find a winning line of argument, working tirelessly and meticulously to cover points of detail and focusing his clients on the important issues in their disputes. Roy represented the only successful defendant after trial in the civil Brinks Mat litigation following on from the infamous gold bullion robbery. This case involved complex and difficult legal argument over constructive trusts. Roy has been involved in representing both defendants and claimants in several very complex High Court cases.

Roy is not exclusively a litigator, however - he is also a sound commercial lawyer with a wide experience of drafting commercial and company documentation. He is accustomed to his clients seeking his advice at an early stage with a view to avoiding disputes before they arise.
